How TPN Helped me to Secure a Graduate Role at Lloyds Banking Group

I decided to join TPN because I recognised the importance of having access to resources that aren’t always readily available to someone from my socioeconomic background. As a BSc Economics student at City University of London, it was refreshing and empowering to see people who looked like me, fellow Tamils, holding senior positions and succeeding in various professions. TPN offered me a sense of belonging and community that felt authentic, which made my decision to become an ambassador that much easier.

One of the most impactful aspects of being involved with TPN is attending their events and workshops. These experiences have broadened my perspective and allowed me to engage with professionals across different industries. The opportunity to connect with individuals who have varied career paths has been incredibly valuable in helping me navigate my own journey. It has also widened my horizons, giving me the confidence to step into rooms where others might have come from more privileged backgrounds, yet still hold my own. I’ve learned that, despite differences in upbringing, my experiences and insights have just as much value.

Recently, I was fortunate enough to land a summer internship at Lloyds Banking Group, a role that was incredibly competitive to secure. While I worked hard to achieve this on my own, I have to acknowledge that TPN played an important part in my personal development. Through TPN’s events and resources, I was able to enhance my skills and feel confident in navigating spaces where I might not always have felt at ease. TPN’s network helped me find my footing and realise that I belonged in those spaces just as much as anyone else.

My Tamil heritage has also been a significant driving force behind my career aspirations. Growing up, education was always highly valued, and I saw that reflected in my family back home, where they held influential roles in the education & health sector. Being part of a culture that places such importance on learning and hard work pushed me to aim for well respected roles in competitive fields. Even though I grew up in a developed country with greater access to information, I’ve always made an effort to carry those values through in everything I do.

Looking ahead, I’m excited about what’s to come with TPN. I know that this community will continue to be a source of inspiration and support as I move forward in my career. I’m grateful to be part of a network that not only celebrates Tamil excellence but also fosters a genuine sense of connection across generations.

If you’re a student who’s looking for a place where you can grow, connect, and feel seen, I highly recommend getting involved with TPN. It’s been a game changer for me, and I’m sure it can be for you too.
