Life as an International Student: How TPN Became My Second Home

I first discovered Tamil Professionals Network through their Instagram page. What started as a casual scroll soon became something much more impactful—a doorway into a community that aligned with my personal vision of giving back to the Tamil community. My mission has always been about uplifting the Tamil community, and this core belief is what drew me to TPN because I saw in them a reflection of my own values.

At the time, I could have easily joined other initiatives, but TPN’s values spoke directly to me. I saw their mission and long-term goals, and it resonated deeply with my own desire to contribute positively to the community. When I joined TPN, I was still relatively new to the UK, and I didn’t know what to expect from the British Tamil community, where most people have grown up here.

That uncertainty faded away as soon as I attended my first TPN event. I immediately felt the energy, the warmth, and the genuine desire of people to create real change within the Tamil community. Everyone was so friendly, and I quickly realized that this wasn’t just an ordinary networking group. The people involved were passionate, committed, and deeply driven by a shared goal to uplift the Tamil community.

What stood out to me the most was that no one was doing this for personal gain or rewards. Every member of TPN was there to help others, not for recognition, but out of a sincere desire to give back. This is something rare, and it made me want to dive in even more.

TPN gave me a sense of belonging in a new country, and to me, it’s become like a second home here in London. This network has not only provided me with more than just community support, but it has also opened doors for me professionally – through TPN, I was able to secure a job opportunity which I am incredibly grateful for.

Looking back, joining TPN has been one of the best decisions I’ve made since moving to the UK. Coming here as an international student, I didn’t know many people and felt the uncertainty of being in a new country. TPN has allowed me to make life-long friends, all whilst giving back to the community. It’s more than just a network, but a place where I’ve found people with the same vision and purpose as mine. It’s a testament to the power of community and the impact we can have when we come together with a shared goal. Beyond the professional opportunities and networking, it’s the friendships I’ve built and the sense of belonging that truly make TPN feel like a second home – a family that has welcome me with open arms and continues to support me every step of the way. Thank you TPN!
